• Mauchline Utd progressed into the 2nd round of
the Ayrshire Cup after a comfortable victory over Crookedholm at Beechgrove
on Saturday. The home side took the lead after 15 mins from the penalty
spot, Darren Biggart netting after a trip on George McLachlan. Mauchline
dominated the rest of the first half but couldn’t find the net.
• Second half substitute Scott Cowan added the 2nd goal with a
20yd strike high to the keepers right hand side. Crookedholm got a goal
back direct from a free kick , Mauchline. however got their 2 goal cushion
again when George McLachlan scored with virtually the last kick of the
ball to send his team through to a tie against Scotia Thistle.
• Mauchline return to league duty on Wednesday night with Hurlford
Utd the visitors kick off 6.30pm.
• Saturday sees Mauchline away to local rivals Catrine Ams for
a 1st round Walker and Templeton Cup tie kick off 2pm.
Mauchline Utd continued their good home league form with a 4-0 victory
over Hurlford Thistle last Wed night. George McLachlan opened the scoring
with a first half strike. Scott Greer opened his account for the club,
tapping in from 1 yard after excellent work from Scott Watson. Scott
Cowan netted after some sloppy goalkeeping gifted him Mauchline’s
third. Cowan added his 2nd latching onto a clearance from keeper Ronal
Davis to finish the scoring and lift Mauchline into 5th place in the
premier league.
Saturday saw them visiting local rivals Catrine Thistle for a 1st round
Walker and Templeton cup tie, Mauchline dominated the first half with
4 unanswered goals, George McLachlan opened the scoring after 5 mins
, Scott Greer rose magnificently at the front post to head home his
side’s 2nd after 10 mins, Darren Biggart grabbed the 3rd on the
half hour mark before Scott Cowan ended the 1st half scoring blasting
in from 12 yards.
United started the 2nd half strongly and McLachlan hit his 2nd of the
match to end Mauchline’s scoring, the home side hit back with
a late consolation strike to make the score a bit more respectable but
not enough to halt Mauchline’s progress into the next round.
Scotia Thistle are the opponents for United on Saturday in a 2nd round
Ayrshire Cup tie at Howard Park, Kilmarnock kick off 2pm.
Mauchline United progressed into the 3rd round of the
Ayrshire Cup after a shaky 3-1 victory away to Scotia Thistle. The visitors
had most of the first half play but never had any clear chances on goal.
Scotia’s first effort on keeper Craig `Bumble` Lee brought the
opening goal 2 mins into the 2nd half , this gave Mauchline a kick up
the backside that most of the spectators would gladly have given them.
Darren Biggart grabbed his 4th goal of the season with a rasping 30yd
drive that gave the keeper no chance, to equalize midway through the
half. Lee was brought back into the action right from the restart and
had to be at full length to touch a shot round his left post. There
after Mauchline began to dominate possession and were rewarded when
George McLachlan gave them the lead knee lobbing the advancing keeper.
McLachlan notched his 2nd getting on the end of an inch perfect pass
from skipper Scott Greer to wrap the tie up.
Mauchline entertain Dalmellington United in a Walker and Templeton 2nd
round tie at Beechgrove Park on Saturday kick off 2pm.
